FAQ
- What is MapGridder?
- MapGridder is a free, browser-based map tool that overlays MGRS and metric grids on an interactive map. You can measure distances, place MIL-STD-2525 tactical symbols, import and export GPX and KML files, and export print-ready maps, all without installing anything.
- Is MapGridder free?
- Yes. The map and every tool run in your browser with no fee and no install. You can use the whole tool without an account; a quick, free sign-in is only needed to capture or export a finished map.
- What grid systems does it support?
- Two: a live MGRS (Military Grid Reference System) grid, which divides the Earth into 6 degree by 8 degree zones and then into 100,000 meter squares down to 1 meter, and a custom metric grid you can set from 10 meters to 10,000 meters with row and column labels.
- Can I import and export GPX, KML, and GeoJSON files?
- Yes. Import GPX or KML files up to 5 MB and export your data back to GPX, KML, or GeoJSON. Files are read and written on your device, so nothing is uploaded to a server.
- Can I export a map to PDF or image?
- Yes. Export a print-ready PDF at true scale on A4, A3, or US Letter at 150, 300, or 600 DPI, or save a PNG image. The grid, routes, waypoints, symbols, and annotations are all included.
- Who is MapGridder for?
- Hobbyists and route planners working with GPX and KML, hikers and camping trip planners, and milsim, airsoft, and army cadets who need MGRS grids and tactical map symbols. Anyone who needs a precise grid or coordinate reference on a map can use it.
