What is a GPX file?
GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is the open XML format GPS devices and apps use to pass data around. A file holds tracks (the timestamped points a device recorded on a hike, ride or drive), routes (a planned path through ordered points) and waypoints (named places such as a trailhead, a campsite or a checkpoint). Handheld GPS units, sports watches and most trail and fitness apps export it, so a recorded hike or a downloaded trail is usually a GPX file.
What people do with an imported GPX
Plan a trip: import a downloaded trail and mark water, campsites and bail-out points before you leave. Brief a race or event: import the official course, lay a 500 m grid over it, mark aid stations and timing points, and export the map for the briefing pack. Review an activity: import the file your watch recorded, measure the sections that matter and mark the notable points. Run a survey or a search: lay a 100 m grid over the area, divide it into sectors and give each group its own reference map.

How do I edit a GPX file online?
Open the map, load your GPX with the Import button in the route panel (or the File menu), then drag points, draw or adjust routes, and add waypoints. Export a new GPX file when you are done.
Are my GPX files uploaded anywhere?
No. Parsing and editing happen entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
What is the file size limit?
GPX imports up to 5 MB, which covers most waypoint and route files.
Can I convert GPX to KML?
Yes. You can export your edited data as KML, or use the dedicated GPX to KML converter.
Can I overlay a grid on a GPX track?
Yes. With the track on the map, turn on a metric grid, or MGRS or UTM, and it draws over the track. That divides a trail into measurable segments and tells you which grid cell a landmark falls in.
Is the GPX editor free?
Yes. Editing runs in your browser with no login or install, and nothing is uploaded. A quick, free sign-in is only needed to export or to save maps to your account. Personal and non-commercial use is free; commercial use needs a paid license.
