Licensing
Personal and non-commercial use is free; commercial use needs a paid license. That splits into two paths:
Commercial license
The public web app already does what you need. A license lets your team use it, and its map exports, in paid work.
On-prem deployment
Your maps cannot leave your network. A self-hosted or air-gapped install, quoted to the requirement.

Why on-prem matters
The public web app is fine for open planning and training. It stops being the right answer the moment your maps are sensitive. Some organizations cannot place a single marker on a commercial service, full stop. Others operate on air-gapped networks with no route to the public internet at all.
An on-prem deployment moves everything inside your boundary: the basemap, the imagery, the plans, the exports.
Nothing calls out, and nothing gets logged on a server you do not control.
For a lot of units that is the difference between a tool they can field and a tool they cannot.
GRG overlays on maps you cannot upload anywhere
Sensitive planning rarely happens on a public basemap. It happens on imagery your unit is simply not allowed to hand to a web service:
The overlay tools exist for exactly that: anchor your own raster to real-world coordinates and build a gridded reference graphic, a GRG, on top of it. Letter the columns, number the rows, and everyone on the net calls the same cell.
On-prem, the image itself is served from your infrastructure. A classified or proprietary map gets the full grid treatment without ever leaving the building.
Map exports for commercial work
Not every commercial case needs a private deployment. Plenty of teams use the public web app to produce gridded map exports for paid work:
- A printed event map with a cell reference.
- Figures for a client report.
- Planning products for a paid course.
That is commercial use, and it needs a paid license rather than an on-prem install. It is a much lighter conversation. Tell us what you produce and we will set up a license that covers it.

Frequently asked questions
Can this run fully air-gapped, with no internet access?
Yes. The grid and coordinate math already run locally, and in an on-prem install the basemap and imagery come from inside your network too. Nothing needs the public internet.
Does any data leave our environment?
No. Plans, overlays, imagery, and exports stay on your infrastructure. There are no external map calls, no analytics, and no telemetry. That is the whole point of the deployment.
Can we build a GRG on our own maps or imagery?
Yes. You can anchor your own raster, such as a scanned sheet, a drone capture, or a facility plan, to real-world coordinates and put a lettered grid over it. On-prem, the source image is served from your own network, so a private or classified map never touches an outside server.
We only sell or publish gridded map exports. Do we need on-prem?
Probably not. Personal and non-commercial use is free; commercial use needs a paid license. If the public web app fits your workflow and you just need to use its map exports in paid work, a commercial license covers that without any deployment.
Who is on-prem for?
Defense and government units on controlled networks, public-safety and emergency-management organizations, and training programs that plan on their own map products. If your environment needs accreditation or an authority to operate, on-prem is the path.
