Frequently asked questions
How do I find sunrise and sunset for a location?
Enter a date and the decimal latitude and longitude, or use your device location. The tool returns sunrise, solar noon, sunset, and the length of the day. Times show in your device's time zone.
Can I get moonrise and moonset times?
Yes. The calculator shows the moonrise and moonset for the date you pick. Some days have no moonrise or no moonset because the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, and the tool says so when that happens.
Can I see the sun's angle and shadow direction?
Yes, on the map. Drop a sun marker to read the sun's azimuth and altitude at any minute and see a shadow arrow for an object of a height you set. Scrub the time of day to watch the shadow swing.
What are BMNT and EENT?
BMNT is the begin morning nautical twilight and EENT is the end evening nautical twilight, the points when the sun is 12 degrees below the horizon and there is just usable, or no longer usable, natural light. The map marks these along with civil twilight, so you can plan around first and last light.
What time zone are the times in?
The calculator shows times in your device's local time zone in 24-hour format. For a location in another time zone, read the result as your own clock time for that event.
Is it free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no login or install. Personal and non-commercial use is free; commercial use needs a paid license.
