Divide a Map into Sectors and Assign Teams
MapGridder turns a drawn area into a plan: outline it on the map, split it into up to 1,000 lettered squares, and paint each team's share in its own color. Each square carries a short reference like B3, so assignments, radio calls, and the debrief all name the same cell.

Frequently asked questions
How do I divide a map into sectors?
Open the sector planner, outline the area (drag a rectangle, click out a polygon, or take the current view), and set how many squares you want or how big one square should be. The area fills with lettered, numbered squares. Then add teams and paint each team's squares in its color.
How do teams reference a sector?
Every sector is one square with a reference of a column letter and a row number, like B3 or D12. Read the column letter first, then the row. The reference names the same square on the screen, the printed PDF, and the exported GeoJSON.
How big can the plan be?
Up to 1,000 squares per plan and up to 12 teams. At 250 meter squares that covers over 60 square kilometers, and the cap keeps references short and the map readable.
Can I export the sector plan?
Yes. The sectors render into image and true-scale PDF exports, and the GeoJSON export carries the drawn area, square size, teams, and assignments, plus one polygon per assigned square, so GIS software reads the plan directly.
Is the sector planner free?
Drawing, splitting, and assigning run in your browser with no install. A quick, free sign-in is only needed to export or to save maps to your account. Personal and non-commercial use is free; commercial use needs a paid license.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Draw the area and paint squares by touch, and the plan saves with the rest of the map.
